In 2017, legislation was passed requiring school districts and charter schools to test for the presence of lead in water. (Minnesota Statute: 121A.335 Lead in School Drinking Water)

Beginning July 1, 2018, the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) requires all schools to test lead levels in all water outlets used for cooking and drinking. This is to ensure a safe and healthy school environment for all students. Lead level testing is required once every 5 years.

Per MDE, New Millennium Academy is required to test the first draw of water used on a regular day. Water drawn from the first usage best identifies if unsafe lead levels exist. NMA utilized an independent laboratory to analyze the water samples of first drawn water.
