OUR HISTORY:
New Millennium Academy is a K-8 School founded in 2005 to serve the growing needs of the Hmong population in the Twin Cities.  Today, we continue to carry forth our mission and pride ourselves in helping students learn mainstream culture and language while implementing a curriculum that reinforces values similar to those at home. NMA is a FREE and OPEN-Enrollment school for all families!

New Millennium Academy is committed to creating a positive learning environment that maximizes student academic achievement, character development, lifelong learning, and Hmong culture and literacy through strong collaboration between staff, parents and community.

ACADEMY GOALS:
Professional developement will be a comprehensive and ongoing, and will specifically train staff in the curriculum to provide sustainability

  • Students will be educated through a curriculum designed to increase the success of our Hmong disadvantage minority students in satisfying Graduation Rules requirements and high content standards as student school dropout rates are materially reduced
  • Students will receive specialized language training to improve communication between family, students and community members in both Hmong and English even as literacy and language classes are provided to adult members of the families who never had the opportunity for education
  • Students will learn about Hmong and American culture and the differences that make for strengths and challenges as well as strategies for adaptation to the mainstream culture
  • Students will be placed in a safe, positive, and stable learning environment, not subject to public school bondary changes and vagaries of employment and home mobility
  • Students will use their challenging and comprehensive education as a major tool through school and adult life in becoming positive citizens and contributors to their family, their neighborhood
  • Our Hmong Minneapolis Community will gain through promotion of teacher professional development and the continuous improvement of instruction and the assesment of student performance
  • Our Hmong Minneapolis Community will gain through improved design and planning of charter school programs
